Step 1: News & Important Issues with Analysis
When people say they want to be informed and up-to-date, what they really mean is that they want to have at least a basic understanding of many of the problems and events occurring nationally and around the world. Contrary to popular thought, browsing endless news stories is not the way to acquire this knowledge. News stories are too specific to one event at one time and are too short to contain lengthy analysis. Think about it, the purpose of news is to tell you what just happened, not to give you pros and cons, analysis, and solutions. To be really knowledgeable, the first and most important step is to read articles with analysis. Some of the best resources are Time Magazine and Newsweek. These magazines come out on a weekly basis, so the information they present is very current. But what really makes these magazines superior sources of current events knowledge than random news stories is that along with each news item, writers give background, analysis and potential solutions for each problem. Articles are interesting as well as informative.
