Why you should stay up to date:1. To do something truly meaningful and to make a difference in the world first requires that you are informed about the issues affecting the world, what works and what doesn’t, and potential ways to fix these problems.
2. Knowledge of current events is a valuable asset to have when it comes to applying for scholarships, college, and even some jobs. Many scholarship and college essay and interview questions will center on important issues affecting the world, your opinions, possible solutions, and how you hope to help.
3. Current events are interesting. Many people don’t realize this, but current events is history in the making, right now. Wars, diplomacy, diseases, laws, technologies, and other significant events are reshaping the world as we know it. They affect every single person on the planet and could mean the difference between the salvation or doom of mankind and the earth as we know it.
4. Being informed means that you won’t look shallow and uninformed to your peers.
A lot of people are interested in current events and want to be informed about what is going on around the world. Yet important events happen everyday from all corners of the world. Updates for each of those events seem to come every 30 minutes. News proliferates too fast now in the information age for anyone to reasonably stay completely up-to-date. Instead of living on cnn.com, we recommend a more practical approach that will make you knowledgeable and reasonably updated on the events of the world.
