Step 2: Choose a recipe

Good recipes to learn (preferably by heart) are ones that use cheap, common ingredients like eggs. The best recipes are also extremely versatile like the omelet, which can incorporate leftovers from dinner into breakfast. Recipes that reuse leftovers are very useful. Celery pieces, leftover rice, and the chicken bones can all be thrown into soup rather than the garbage can, and with much more cost-effective results. Learn to make salads. Even if the health value of eating raw greens isn't enough to convince you, salads are good to learn first because you can incorporate many things into a basic salad dish and the preparation time for simple salads is smaller than most other types of food. Another healthy but convenient recipe is the sandwich, which also has the virtue of being infinitely versatile.
