Will a sport be a big time issue?
It really depends on your priorities. Freshman and Sophomore year, for the most part, are not a problem in terms of time commitment. After all, it is only about nine weeks and then you are free to do whatever else you want. Don’t not try out for a sport because you want to do clubs – that’s not a good reason. Majority of the time you can easily do both (check with your coach for details). Unless you plan on becoming the Speech and Debate State Champion (all four years in a row), don’t sweat the clubs and the sports conflict. Sports are not a problem in terms of normal school work and studying – in fact, it is during the season that I always work the most efficiently. However, there are conflicts with internships, and sometimes jobs. Most of the time these can be worked around but if you have other scheduled activities, make sure to evaluate how important each one is to you before you commit yourself.
