Get an Internship
Why: Internships are the best way to get experience for your desired career. Plus, colleges are much more impressed and prefer a future biochemist to spend 100 hours working in a lab compared to 100 hours working at “Lamps Galore”.How: 1) Talk to teachers/counselors about internships through local colleges, etc.
2) Email college professors about working with them in their classes or researching.
Local College Internships
There are many established college/university internship programs. You can just Google what you are looking for. There are also many websites (click here) with some established lists.

Emailing College Professors
- What to Include:
- Name
- What your background and plans are (Example: “I have taken an accounting and entrepreneurship class at my school and I’ve found a passion for business. I want to go to the University of Pennsylvania to major in …”)
- Why you are interested (“I really want more experience working with business and interning with you would give me a lot of insight.”)
- Optional: Attach a resume
- How to reach you (Email address, phone number)
- “Thank you”, “Thank you for your time”, etc
- Name
